Many types of industries are experiencing difficulties in the current economic climate, they may be facing financial difficulties themselves or their clients may be struggling or both may be in trouble but what can cleaning companies do to help themselves during these times?
Firstly you need to talk to your staff and if they are not already aware of the situation ensure they know full well what sort of pressures you and the company are under, don’t be shy of pulling punches; make sure they know their job is on the line.
Once you’ve explained the situation to your employees, tell them their work is going to be under more scrutiny than ever, they should not be giving clients a reason to get rid of the current contractor.
This is a vital point at any time, but even more so now. You need to provide an outstanding service all the time, many times the best you can hope for in the cleaning industry is that you work is being done so well that no-one notices or comments, i.e. the building is being cleaned as it should be so no-one needs to comment. Now though, any nagging problems or areas that have been neglected by cleaners will raise their head and clients who already twitchy to reduce any overheads will not think twice if you are underperforming on a contract. Make sure your staff understand this as well.
Cleaning companies when asked to reduce budgets need to hold their ground and point out any other services they are providing that may not be included in any quotes the client may have received recently. If like us here at ICS, you’ll always being try to go the extra mile to make sure the client gets the best service possible, you now need to point out all those extras and ask have they been allowed for in the new quotes?
If you are delivering an excellent cleaning service and have pointed out that you always go the extra mile to provide a great cleaning service, that you, your company and your staff are excellent, guess what? This still may often not be enough.
Yep you are down on your knees telling the client how hard you and your staff work, how many little extras you provide, and they are saying yep we like all that but we got 3 quotes here that undercut you by 25% and if you cant match it we are going with one of them.
Well tough times call for tough decisions, can you match it, can you get to that super low price, how can you possibly hope to pay and reward good cleaners and managers for their excellent work? Well you’ve got to make that call, you need to reduce every overhead look at every unnecessary cost and reduce, reduce, reduce.
So you need to be flexible, you need to offer a fantastic service, you need to be innovative, be all these and you may survive the recession.
